No responses after 8 months. Are you pitching:

  • To the right publications?

    Problem:
    Product: Price point and/or product isn’t right for their audience.

    Profile: Not hooked by the suggested angle.

    Fix: Understand their habits and movements and then re-evaluate your target publication list.

  • A niche product range?

    Problem: A product which infrequently has dedicated features. Pet products are a great example of this.

    Fix: Continue pitching and use keywords (e.g.: ‘dog leads’) so when they do come around to compiling a relevant feature you're on their radar.

    Increase profile outreach to support credibility.

  • With poor imagery?

    Problem: The most common reason for no responses is weak cut-outs, uninspiring ‘behind the brand’ imagery or poor quality founder shots.

    Fix: Book a professional photographer and stylist to redo the images required and then start pitching again. Do research on how similar product categories shoot their images.

    Great imagery secures great coverage.

  • With a weak website or branding?

    Problem: Although the imagery is strong, the brand could feel disjoined and the branding/website is outdated.

    Fix: If it’s just a website refresh, then pause pitching until this is done. If a full rebrand is required, pause PR until you're ready.

  • with a brand that just isn't that great?

    Problem: Pushing something that the world doesn’t need or want will be reflected in press responses.

    Fix: Be realistic about how many sales the brand has had. Put together a focus group (not family and friends) to gain feedback and insights. Stop PR during this time.
